  • The first Midwest Geobiology Symposium (MWG) was held on September 22, 2012 at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Since its inception, the symposium has steadily grown, expanding from an inaugural 28 abstracts to 61 at last year’s Purdue meeting. The MWG’s defining feature is that it is organized by and for early-career researchers, intentionally designing the meeting to provide a welcoming and supportive environment to present work, receive feedback, and develop professional networks. It simultaneously provides faculty with the opportunity to connect with colleagues at neighboring institutions and establish new collaborations. By rotating among institutions across the Midwest, the MWG strengthens the connection between regional geobiology research groups that might otherwise have limited contact at larger national or international meetings. The symposium fosters scientific exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration, and mentorship while providing valuable conference-organizing experience for its student organizers

  • A sizable portion of funding is traditionally allocated to reimburse traveling expenses for students and trainees. To be considered for reimbursement, you must provide a valid receipt for the expense (e.g., hotel, Airbnb, travel, etc.). Please note that we have limited funds available, so reimbursement is typically partial rather than full.
